Private Lessons

For piano, voice, guitar, drums, strings, winds, and brass

I am glad that children get rewarded for practice. I am glad that they have to do scales and theory. I think playing in recitals and other opportunities to perform are great ways to build confidence and learn to have poise in front of people.

Private lessons are offered at a variety of convenient times during the week, Monday through Saturday, with our well respected faculty. Private study is currently offered to students of all ages in piano, voice, guitar, drums, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, steel drums, and harp.

Private music lessons are offered year round in three trimesters: January through April, May through August, and September through December. Each trimester contains 14 private lessons as well as one group musicianship class. The private lessons are offered in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. Advanced students (late intermediate and up) are encouraged to take 45 or 60 minute lessons. All private students are placed into small groups for the musicianship classes. These classes focus on developing the "total musician" by exploring such topics as: performance skills, theory, ear training, transposing, sight reading, ensemble playing, style periods, improvisation, and more. All musicianship classes are one hour in length. In private lessons, WCAOM students learn to master the instrument they have chosen and to communicate musical purpose and meaning through that instrument. Students of all ages and abilities learn the technical and musical skills to make their chosen discipline a vehicle for self expression and enjoyment.

The private lesson format is particularly well suited for students wishing to pursue a specific course of study such as the National Music Certificate Program or the Suzuki Course.
